As cord seals are normally used to reduce hot gas leakage rather than produce a tight seal, the level of gas leakage depends on various factors. These factors can include cord seal cross-section, operating temperature, thermal cycling, levels of vibration, seal compression, etc.
Therefore it is difficult to give exact figures but tests have shown that leakage rates for a 3 mm rope seal of less than 10 ppm are obtained at ambient temperature and pressure differential of 4.5 bar (70 psi) using a standard groove configuration.
